Monday in Salzburg

Monday I traveled by train to Salzburg, Austria. I saw the Fortress Hohensaltzburg and walked the historic city streets. Salzburg is very much a tourist city with the center of attention the fact that Mozart was born here. There is a magnificant statue of Mozart in the old part of the city. I also visited the beautiful Mirabell Gardens. The true highlight of my day in Saltzburg was the Augustiner Biergarten. This was a real treat. I found it on the map but could not find the entrance. The streets in this part of the city are very windy and narrow while the landscape is a massive hill over looking the river. Once I found the Augustiner sign I walked through the door and down a large flight of stairs and started to here voices. I found it! Around another corner and down another corridor was a large shelf with many different sizes of glasses and mugs. So the ruitine is to choose a mug then rinse it in the very large marble sink with tap water. Then you pay the man in the booth and take your empty mug to the man at the beer tap. This place was a true hidden treasure. Outside was a massive beer garten that seats 1500 people. All covered by huge trees.
